

It's not surprising that Creepshow 2 wasn't as good without the two masters in their prior roles, but for years, the sequel had an unjust reputation as being outright terrible. This time, Romero handed over the director's chair to frequent cinematographer Michael Gornick, and wrote the script himself, based on stories and a treatment written by King. The hitchhiker's fate is unknown.Creepshow was a box office success, so naturally, Creepshow 2 was commissioned. Later, Annie's husband arrives home and finds his wife, dead from carbon monoxide poisoning caused from the still running car with the hitchhiker's sign showing his targeted destination that reads "DOVER". The hitchhiker attacks Annie as she vainly and repeatedly tries to fight him off. As she is about to step out, the hitchhiker appears from under her car, completely mangled from the trip, still uttering the same words over and over again: "Thanks for the ride, lady!". Annie finally makes it home before her husband. She wakes up a while later and thinks the trip was only a dream. Annie eventually loses control of her car, she drives into a tree, knocking herself out. During all the excitement, the hitchhiker even shows Annie a message that says, "You killed me!".

The frightened Annie speeds off in terror, but everywhere she goes, the hitchhiker always reappears and becomes her pursuer and tormentor throughout the trip, as she repeatedly runs him over, shoots him, hurls him off the top of her car, slams him into trees, etc., as he only gets more and more battered and bloody without dying. Miles away from the scene, the hitchhiker Annie killed suddenly appears waving her down, appears outside her window and utters, "Thanks for the ride, lady!" He was played by Tom Wright.Īs Annie Lansing drives by in her car, she accidentally kills a hitchhiker and speeds off.
